My mom and I always closed "The Bit" from the weekend before Christmas until the weekend after New Years. I am confused by your post but, I am also sorry for your bad experience.
Love The Bit

Bit of Bavaria used to be our favorite restaurant. Doris and Kanina make you feel like you are visiting their home. They have always welcomed us with open arms. The food is just like homemade and is the best German food I have ever eaten. Their traditional recipes and exceptional welcome definitely made it the best kept secret in Springfield. We are hoping it will reopen again in the future.

very disapointed in the schnitzel. Not the quality one would expect in a "German" restaurant.

Bit Of Bavaria USED TO be our favorite German restaurant until New Years Eve 2002. We haven't been back since and I am still fuming every time I think of the experience. We waited over an hour to be seated with numerous parties arriving later and being seated before us (no reservations were accepted). Once we finally managed to convince the hostess to get us a table, it took another 30 minutes to get a drink and another hour+ to get our food--which arrived stone cold! It was time to call it quits. We left without eating and ended up having pizza for our romantic New Year's Eve dinner because it was too late to be served anywhere else. What a ruined evening. Maybe one day when we're feeling lucky we may throw the dice and try it again--maybe in a couple more years!

We were looking for a good german restaurant. This is the only one in the Springfield area so we tried it. What a mistake! The service there was awful. The food was served cold and it took our waitress about 35 minutes to give us our check. they did not make my family feel welcomed there! After we finally got warm food it was tasty, but it didn't convince me to go back there!
Bit of Bavaria is Authentic!

I have eaten at Bit of Bavaria several times and find it Springfield's 'best kept secret'. The owners and staff always make people feel at home! The bratwurst are true German brats, all of the food prepared is from 'scratch', there is an EXCELLENT selection of German Beer and wine. Dont be scared off by the exterrior, when you enter the restaurant you are completly taken away. I would give it 5 stars by far!
